Vale Margaret Wright (1936-2022)
Last week Hawks family lost one of their Life Members, great friend to many and long standing supporter of the blue & white -Margaret Wright.
Her connection with the Hawks commenced in the mid 1980’s before Scarborough City became Perry Lakes Hawks. Her son Michael graduated from a Subiaco Junior to play A Grade (as it was known then) and
Margaret was already working on the SBL (formerly A Grade) score-bench, continuing as a regular for the next 30 years and well over 500 games. After losing her husband John over 27 years ago, basketball became Margaret’s focus (along with her 2 children & grandchildren) and social activity in life.
Margaret was made a Perry Lakes Hawks Life Member in 2009 , something she was very proud of.Whether it be on the bench or as a supporter at the Wildcats/Lynx/National Comp/Hawks or cheering for her grandchildren in junior games, Margaret was always a presence.
Her distinctive Scottish accent could be heard as she barracked for “my team” over the past couple of years, something she was able to do since retiring from score-table duties.
Margaret would sit in the stands in “her seat”, proudly displaying her life member badge, cheering on our Hawks NBL1 teams as they played on “my John Gardiner” show court.
Her weekly phone calls to the Hawks office pre-season, during season and end of season, wanting to know what was happening and who was doing what in the teams and around the Club, will be sadly missed.
