NBL1 West is back – Opening Weekend Double Header

NBL1 West gets underway this weekend with a double header

The Hawks will play East Perth at home on Friday night March 31st and then travel to play Lakeside on Saturday night April 1st. It should be an exciting year of NBL1 West with many teams boosting their roster with import players and current NBL players from around Australia playing in the league.

NBL1 West Men

The men welcome Mitch Clarke back into the team after a year playing in the East and also added big man Daniel Alexander to the roster. Andrew Ferguson will return to the team in mid to late April after spending the off season playing in Japan. Record game holder Ben Purser is back for another season as is senior player Rob Cassir. AJ Nobensi, Cooper Hamilton, Matt Leary, Bailey Cole, Jack Isenbarger, Nick Floyd, Lewis Thomas, Harry Imison, Braylen Dale and Kyiah O’Donohue are all back in blue and ready to take the court while Neema Kazemi has returned to the Hawks where he played as a junior.

Coach Parsons has had his team working hard in the off-season and is looking forward to seeing them on court as a unit.

“There is such a great excitement in the squad for the start of the NBL1 West competition, We have had a great pre-season on the track and cannot wait to see the rewards for all the hard work and commitment the players, coaches and the club support department have put in. We have looked to establish a new identity with our playing style in 2023. We have had such a positive buy-in from the playing group, and the standard they have set each training session will be relied upon once the season starts. Its an exciting year to be around the club as we look to celebrate 50 years, and hoping to start the next 50 the right way.

NBL1 West Women

The women have added import Nici Gilday to their team and Maddy Dennis has rejoined the team after time in USA. Emma Clarke returns from her WNBL commitments with the Sydney Flames and we welcome Ash Isenbarger to the Hawks. Captain Annika Renkema returns for another season along with Millie McCarthy, Ellie Newman, Charlotte Graziano, Mia Satie, Zoe Shanahan, Rylee Kerr, Beige Harris, Malia Tharpe , Jenna Teasdale and Danika Pisconeri.

Coach Mansfield is looking forward to his second season with the Hawks.

“I am so excited to be back at Hawks and for the team we have put together for the 2023 season.  We have retained key players from last year including Emma Clarke and Mia Satie and made the additions of Nici Gilday and Ash Isenbarger, however, the entire squad has shown improvement and development in their game.  We are very settled with what our game plan will be and this second season together for the players and coaches should show a massive improvement. The NBL1 West league is looking much improved across the board, with many clubs announcing additional recruits from international, interstate and locally.  This sets us up for an exciting season and a great basketball product for our supporters to watch.”

Wear blue and support your Hawks in 2023 !
