Thanks Rob Cassir – NBL1 West Retirement
After 11 seasons as a member of the Hawks SBL /NBL1 Men’s team, Rob Cassir has announced his retirement from the League.
Rob joined the Hawks in 2013 after commencing his SBL career in 2007 with the Perth Redbacks (53 games) and Willetton Tigers from 2011-2012 (52 games)
From 2013- end of season 2023, Rob suited up for 218 Hawks SBL/NBL1 West games, that included 2 Championships – 2018 (SBL) and 2021 (NBL1 West).
Along the way Rob met his lovely wife, Hawks Women’s past captain, Kate Anthony and they were married in November 2022.
Rob was co-captain (with Ben Purser) for seasons 2018-2022 and his experience and hard work on the court, was never questioned. He was looked up to as a leader by all and in particular the young upcoming Hawks NBL1 players. He was tough, took great pride in scrimmaging at training sessions and was known to get a little ‘grumpy’ if coach decided to cancel the scrimmages.
Rob overcame career threatening injuries to play a total of 323 games. He was awarded Perry Lakes Hawks Player Life Membership and SBL/NBL1 West Player Life Membership in 2023, for 200 games in SBL/NBL1 West.
We wish Rob the very best in his retirement and we hope to see he and Kate supporting the Hawkies in 2024 from the sidelines.
