Men’s Championship Division Grand Final on Sunday
Our Men’s Championship Division team have made it to the Grand Final this Sunday. Our Ladies team were knocked out in the semi-finals
2021 saw a number of big changes to Basketball with the innaugural NBL1 West league starting and our WABL Division 1 changing it’s name to Championship Division. Perry Lakes has successfully used this division to help transition our younger players from WABL to be able to perform and play at a NBL1 level.
Last year we had one of the youngest sides in the comp and this year were able to keep the core group together with a few new players being added to the group. The season was scheduled to have more games but due to the COVID lock downs the season was shortened.
The team started the season very well with big wins against all teams except Warwick who they defeated by a 1pt in a come from behind win. The team had their only loss for the season to Lakeside by 5pts. It has been an interrupted season with forfeits, COVID and byes but the boys were able to come together as a group and finish top of the ladder. In the Quarter Finals they comfortably defeated Mandurah and in the Semi final they won a come from behind thriller against the Willetton Tigers by 3 points.
This Sunday the Hawks play the only team that has beaten them in the regular season, Lakeside. Coach David Moreschi believes it will be the team that stays disciplined and can absorb the pressure when the other team is on a scoring run that will win the game.
Good luck to our Men for Sunday and get down to Bendat at 4.30pm on Court 1 to cheer them on! Go Hawks!
