State Champs Wrap Week 1
WEEK 1 STATE CHAMPS WRAP
Week one of the Smarter Than Smoking 2017 BWA State Champs saw Hawks represented by 9 teams.
11 Boys
Our U11 boys teams – some who had never played WABL or been in a BWA Carnival before, showed real talent, under warm conditions. Although they didn’t make the finals, they will all come out of the weekend with a positive experience, going into WABL 2018.
17 Girls
Our U17 Girls both made the Grand Finals but were pipped at the post by Lakeside in the U17CH division and by Kalgoorlie in the 17-2 ‘s. Both teams played really well despite a number of the 17CH players doubling up with games for the SPP teams. The 17-2’s were down to 6 players in the Grand Final and just ran out of steam. Well done to both teams.
17 Boys
We had 3 teams in U17 Men’s Competition – our 17CH team made it through to the Grand Final and beat Willetton Tigers convincingly with AJ (Adrian) Nobensi taking out the Grand Final MVP. Again both AJ and Nathan Thomas doubled up with games for SPP teams and the Hawks over the weekend.
Our 17-2 Hawks Blue team suffered an early blow with a carnival ending injury to their big in Charles Warner. This left the team without a big but they still managed two wins and two losses out of the weekend. A good effort under the circumstances. Hawks White was just pipped by 1 point in the final game to finish with two wins and two losses.
19 Boys
Our U19 Boys had a tough carnival coming out with one win and three losses. Games were close and they were missing some of their players so all looks promising for U20’s in 2018
Thankyou
Our thanks to our coaches: John; Adam; Chris; Blair; Adrian; Morgan; Damian; James & Brett and to our team managers in Ann; Candice; Aiden; Rachel; Katie; Gina; Annette; Rebecca and Simon.
We look forward to WABL 2018 – you can all have a break now.
