Veteran Pair Move to the Hawks Nest
Veteran Pair Daniel Thomas and Josh Garlepp have signed with the Perry Lakes “ID Athletic” Hawks for season 2018.
Thomas a point guard who played last season with Cockburn before injuring his ankle and sitting out the second half after electing to get surgery, is excited about the new challenge to play for the most successful club in MSBL history.
“I was contacted about the possibility of teaming up with Coach Parsons again in 2018, and after our success together in winning the championship in 2016 it was a no brainer. I enjoy the direct and accountable approach Parsons places on everybody from veterans to rookies.” Thomas said,
“The organisation and the boys have been accepting of myself coming into the squad and the role that I will play for the club”. Thomas has achieved so much individually in the league over his 12 seasons, but he also appreciates the opportunity to be able to teach the next generation of Hawks; a challenge that excited DT. “The young guys coming through the club are an absolute joy to work with, they work hard, listen to advice and they have the work ethic and the dedication, hopefully to see them become great players”.
Garlepp who spent the 2017 Season playing in the NSW Waratah League, after moving to Sydney with his employer Fox Sports, is excited to return to the Club he grew up supporting.
“It’s always a privilege to come back to Perry Lakes where I grew up playing for so long and to be able to slot back into a pretty stacked squad has me pretty excited. I have so many fond memories at Perry Lakes starting at the old stadium 22 years ago and the friendships I have formed over my time here. It’s been refreshing to come back and be a part of a new system under Parso, with the new perspectives on the game, along with the level of accountability he places on individuals, keeps everyone driven and focused for success as a group. “
With the Hawks also placing priority in re-signing Ben Purser, Ryan Smith and import Big Man Brian Carlwell, along with securing the veteran services of Rob Cassir, Travis Hayto and Jordan Hickert for another year, to support recently signed pair Lochlan Cummings and import Tyler Monroe.
As well as retaining the majority of its 2017 roster, the team looks set to unleash some young talent in 2018 with youngsters Mitch Clarke who was a part of the WA Under 20 men’s that won Bronze at the recent National Championship, Bailey Cole- Heath, Jack McDonald and Cooper Hamilton, all having big off seasons and ready to make more of an impact individually in the new season.
